130 year old teak yacht. LOA 53ft, Beam 11ft. Cutter rig and long lead keel. Built by Wm Luke, Hamble. Largely original, substantially built with 30mm teak planking on 80mm oak frames.
Winner of Brixham to Santander and Fastnet (twice) as well as many Round the Cans races in Strangford Lough and regattas further afield. Comfortable cruising annually anywhere between La Rochelle and Stornoway. Can be sailed and even raced single-handed.
Comfortably sleeps 5 in pilot, saloon and forecabin berths. Heavy displacement provides a steady grip on the water, throwing waves easily off her bows and elegantly lifting her stern in a following sea.
Well maintained by recent owners - complete lead-to-deck recaulk 2023. In 2024, topsides recaulked, repainted Toplac white (was green) in response to higher summer temperatures.
Spruce mast, all running and standing rigging, genny furler, genny and staysail and guardrails replaced 2012. All heavy canvas, including main, in very good condition. New Beta 43hp engine and PRM gearbox 2015. Two independent bilge pumps and Hydro air sensors fitted 2024.
Excellent 2024 professional survey continuously refers to the boat as sound and serviceable.
Glance is ready to sail away for racing or comfortable cruising.

- The doghouse, added 1950 for Fastnet race, accessed by sliding hatch and 3 washboards, provides very convenient wet gear hanging space (above the engine), a chart table to take a half-folded chart with AIS, Radar and depth sounder behind and VHF radio below.
- For a traditional yacht, the flag locker provides all the dress-overall one could need.
- A deep shelf provides ample storage for lifejackets, tools and handy phone or tablet charging.
- The quarter berth/pilot berth to port is comfortable and warm (above the calorifier) with a light above the bunk head, a bookshelf and small shelf for ‘bits and pieces’.
- The doghouse also provides access to stern stowage for lines and fenders and the emergency tiller, a boot locker and battery locker.
- The front panel of the battery locker has the domestic switch array and the solar panel display indicating the state of the battery charge.
- The Photonic Universe solar controller and the blocking diode are in the centre starboard locker along with the main engine and domestic power switches.
- The 4 doghouse floorboards all lift easily giving excellent access all round the insulated engine compartment, right back to the stuffing box. Socks and gloves dry well on the warm engine.

- A couple of steps down into the main saloon has the drinks locker to port (with a good selection of event commemorative plates (such as Brest and Douarnenez) on the door).
- Beneath the drinks locker is the waste bin locker.
- To starboard is the galley with pressurised hot and cold fresh water and the gimballed Atlantic 2 burner, grill and oven gas stove. There’s ample storage around the galley – 4 lockers, 2 drawers, crockery stowage, etc.
- The locker below the sink lifts out completely to give access to the forward end of the engine.
- The two automatic bilge pumps (one activated lower than the other via separate Hydro Air switches) are below the cabin sole in front of the sink. Lifting a floorboard gives access. The Whale Titan pump in the same space doubles as manual bilge pump and sink emptying pump.
- Central in the main saloon is the teak dropleaf table containing two large storage lockers.
- On either side of the table are upholstered single bunks/seating with backrests which can be used as lee boards.
- Below, behind and above the bunks are ample storage both enclosed and open (a total of 10 spaces per bunk!). All storage is lined away from the inside of the hull.

- The 3-way Dometic fridge serves also as a table-end seat. With a little ingenuity, there can be 8 seats round the table – friendly!
- The main saloon has standing headroom and Flotex carpet.
- The large freshwater tank occupies the whole space below the floor. No frames intrude on the floor space.
- The combination of white painted deckhead and teak panelling give a cosy but light feel to the saloon.
- The main hatch (which can be opened completely or propped open) provides lots of natural light while bunk lights give a gentle evening glow reflecting off the teak panelling and the fluorescent tube over the galley provides clear working illumination.
- The white-painted heads compartment also has standing headroom.
- The porcelain basin has hot and cold fresh water and the Baby Blake toilet flushes with seawater.
- There’s no holding tank though there’s space for one under the heads gratings.
- The shower has a temperature control and good flow rate. It drains into the bilge.
- There are open storage spaces behind the basin, a locker beneath it and a large locker behind the toilet.
- The locker below the basin houses the freshwater pressure pump and has space for storage of cleaning materials.
- A deck prism and a light above the basin provide illumination.

- The forecabin, also carpeted in Flotex, has standing headroom under the hatch.
- The two V bunks are a generous size with cavernous stowage space beneath and enough length to allow baggage to be stowed at the foot.
- Each bunk has a multi-pocketted organiser hanging beside it.
- There are two large lockers, one hanging, one shelved at the after end of the forecabin.
- The stowage space under the forward end of the bunks houses the deckwash pump and has room for a generator if required.
- Individual bunk lights are complemented by an LED overhead light.
- The central hatch can open completely or be propped partially open.
- Deck prisms above the starboard bunk and in the hatch provide daylight.
- The anchor chain locker is accessed through a hatch in the forward bulkhead of the forecabin.
- There’s 60m of ½” galvanised chain, new in 2009. Easily flaked in the space, the chain can drain into the bilge.
